EMMA KALLMAN
I have come to consider myself a bit of a nomad. I have no permanent state of place or being. Changing locations has been a constant in my life.
I have lived in many different places in my life -- five states and nine homes. I was born in Pennsylvania, spent the majority of my childhood in Alaska, and attended high school in California. Most recently, I attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.
Through the influence of my parents, I have come to place a large emphasis on travel. I am very grateful to have been able to visit many different regions of the world during my childhood, and hope to maintain that ideal on my own.

Much like my life, there is no permanent state in my work. I have worked with both photography and videography. I have studied various genres of photography, such as food, nature, and portraiture. My more recent work is mostly portraiture, but the nature of the photographs varies.

When I first picked up a camera, my main intent was to capture and preserve as many moments as I could. In my teenage years, I came to look at the camera as not just a tool for preservation, but as a tool for communication. I began to take photographs, or rather stories, of the world around me and share them with others. As I continued to explore the camera, another shift occurred. While I still sought to capture stories without, I began to seek stories within. I hope to explore the idea of a deeper human connection and meaning by photographing people and places.

Thank you for taking the time to view my work.
